Alliance Forest Products Inc., Montreal, QC, has made a number of appointments as part of its corporate reorganization: ROBERT S. FORBES, special advisor to the president and chief executive officer; DINO FUOCO, executive vice-president, chief financial and administration officer; GEORGES CABANA, senior vice-president, human resources and public affairs; PIERRE MONET, vice-president, finance; GERRY RENAUD, vice-president, operations, pulp and paper; and KEVIN B. WASSIL, vice-president, sales and marketing, paper products.
For the second year in a row, Vancouver-based UBC Pulp and Paper Centre graduate students have taken first and second prizes at the annual Graduate Students’ Seminars at McGill University in Montreal. First prize went to ALIREZA ROSHANZAMIR, a PhD candidate, for Modeling of Suction Boxes in Blade Gap Formers. Second Prize was earned by GREG STEWART, a PhD candidate, for Cross-Directional Controller Tuning: Performance-Oriented Design and Analysis.

The 1999 Paper Industry Gold Medal is to be awarded to JOHN PAINE, managing director of MacMillan Bloedel Pulp and Paper Sales Ltd. The Gold Medal, initiated in 1967, recognizes the person considered to have done the most to further the interests of the paper and allied industry in the United Kingdom. The medal is scheduled to be awarded at an industry event later in the year.
