Latest evidence of a troubled economy was borne out in Morehouse Parish, LA, as International Paper ordered seven weeks of downtime for its mill located there.

The facility will shut down for two consecutive periods, beginning November 9, for three weeks, and on December 15, for roughly four weeks. According to a report by the Bastrop Daily Enterprise, the company expects the mill to be fully operating for the two week interval starting November 30.

The company cited sluggish demand for pulp and a gloomy economic forecast as prompting the decision to take downtime.

The facility produces 100% fluff and market pulp. It converted from producing uncoated freesheet earlier this year.
