In recognition of its contribution to forestland protection, International Paper has been named the Georgia Wildlife Federation’s 2005 "Forest Conservationist of the Year." The company helped safeguard 16,000 acres of forestland near the Okefnokee National Wildlife Refuge through its voluntary relinquishment of land acquisition rights to prevent future mining on the property.

International Paper has demonstrated its commitment to land protection in many ways over the years, through land donations, abdicating mineral rights on specific properties and collaborating with environmental organizations to help protect endangered species.
