Dec. 6, 2016 – The Canadian Press is reporting that Irving Pulp and Paper Limited has been charged with 15 counts of illegal dumping into the St. John River.
According to The Canadian Press, an Environment Canada spokesman says Irving has been charged under federal Fisheries Act provisions on the deposit of harmful substances into fish-bearing water.
The CBC is reporting the minimum penalty would be $3 million if Irving is found guilty of all 15 charges.
Irving spokeswoman Mary Keith says the charges “relate to issues that were self-reported” by the company.
