Citing increasingly high power costs, Irving Paper has threatened to move its paper mill facility out of Saint John, New Brunswick, to Quebec, where power costs are lower. This follows the three-percent-rate increase announced by NB Power Corporation. In January, parent company J. D. Irving Ltd., Flakeboard Co. Ltd. and Fraser Papers asked the New Brunswick Provincial government to reexamine the power rates charged to the sector. The government is now reviewing the NB Power Corp. rate increase.
