Japanese papermakers who have long claimed to use recycled paper in their products now face serious PR problems -and falling sales and share prices -when it was revealed they routinely falsified and exaggerated their green records. For example, major player Oji Paper Co. copy paper, supposedly containing 100% recycled paper, was shown to have only 40% recycled content. The papermakers involved in the scandal account for 80% of Japan’s paper industry.
