J.D. Irving resumes operations after butane gas detected in the air

Jan. 25, 2018 – J.D. Irving is reporting that after “multiple air tests,” it is confirming zero readings of butane at the Irving Wallboard, Irving Paper and or Bayside Drive Offices after its January 11 announcement of possible butane levels at its operations. As well, the tests confirm zero butane readings at its water and sewers lines.
The company says that as a precautionary measure, Irving Paper will continue monitoring as the mill begins start up.
Full operations resumed on January 12.
“We appreciate the support of monitoring experts, the Saint John Fire Department and Irving Oil in completing over 75 tests and site inspections to confirm the safety of these operations.
“We also thank the teams at Irving Paper who have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of the employees at the mill and our Bayside Drive sites impacted by this difficult situation. We appreciate the patience of all employees as we worked to ensure the safety of our workforce and the site,” according to a company statement.
