Kemira appoints new head of corporate responsibility

November 5, 2018 – Kemira, the Finnish chemical industry group, has announced Rasmus Valanko as its new director, corporate responsibility effective February 1, 2019.

Valanko is currently the director of climate and energy at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). In this role, he is responsible for a wide portfolio of projects within WBCSD, strategic partnerships and cross-sector collaboration. Previously, Valanko has worked for Royal Dutch Shell in various roles including alternative energy strategy, climate policy and manufacturing. He has also worked for the ministries of foreign affairs and environment in Finland, focusing on overseas development cooperation and multilateral environmental treaties.

“Sustainability is an integral part of Kemira’s business purpose and strategy, as we work to improve the resource efficiency of our customers in water intensive industries,” says Jari Rosendal, Kemira’s president and CEO. “Rasmus will be a good addition to our team developing sustainability as a true competitive advantage for Kemira. We also want to extend a big thank you to Tuula Paajanen, who leaves the role in order to retire after a transition period.”
