Construction of Kruger’s 23 MW biomass cogeneration plant has started at the company’s Brompton mill.

Construction of Kruger’s 23 MW biomass cogeneration plant has started at the company’s Brompton mill.

Kruger’s energy group recently secured all of the necessary authorizations to proceed with the project that saw the company invest more than $85 million.

The undertaking is in response to Hydro-Qubec-Distribution’s call for tenders on April 15th, 2003 for the supply of 100MW of electrically generated biomass.

Kruger is calling the plant an environmentally sound project as it involves the production of green energy. The facility will lead to an annual reduction in greenhouse gases of roughly 83,000 tonnes, the equivalent of removing 18,000 vehicles from the road.
