Kruger Inc. Forest and Wood Products Division has obtained an increase in the scope of its ISO 14 001 registration to cover the whole of its forest activities on the North Shore.

ISO 14001 certification of the forest supply territory of common area 093-20, north of Baie Comeau, which up to this point covered operations planning and supervision, will now cover all activities performed by forest workers. In addition, the forest operations in common area 090-30, north of Forestville, are also certified for all activities.

ISO 14001 certification is a voluntary approach that permits the identification and control of any significant impact of forestry operations on the environment. At Kruger, this framework applies to forest management planning activities, construction and maintenance of roads, wood harvesting, log transportation and scaling, silviculture, and management of logging camps.

Kruger also established a permanent Public Advisory Committee composed of the various groups and organizations representing users of the territory and its resources. The Public Advisory Committee enables local concerns to be taken into account when drawing up forest management plans, and thereby to develop specific strategies that meet the needs of all users of the territory.
