EU EXPANSION CONSTRICTS NORTH AMERICA
SEATTLE, WA –The recent induction of ten new countries to the European Union will likely bolster Europe’s wood industry, channeling profits from North American competitors.
Countries under the EU umbrella are benefiting from increased efficiency and the effects of this productivity are becoming progressively apparent. Forestry product output in the ten newly inaugurated countries is booming and shows no signs of slowing down. This trade block will help European producers secure an increased U.S. market share.
European companies will avert some of their products to other areas, such as the eastern U.S. where their wood products already adorn the shelves of Home Depot and Lowe’s stores. This redirection of products is untimely, as U.S. and Canadian industries are fighting to cut costs, in part by closing mills.
