Edmonton, AB Meeting a growing need among global customers for independent confirmation that forest products have been sourced legally from sustainably managed forests, Millar Western has successfully sought recognition under a number of internationally respected certification programs. Under each, the company is subject to regular audit by third parties.

From January 22 to 25, Millar Western’s Whitecourt and Boyle woodlands operations underwent a series of audits confirming their adherence to stringent environmental peformance measures. Both Boyle and Whitecourt were recertified to the ISO 14001 standard, which assesses an organization’s Environmental Management System. As well, Boyle was successfully recertified under FORESTCARE, the Alberta forest industry’s code of conduct for care of the forest, environment, and communities.

In December, Whitecourt also passed the first annual surveillance audit for its CSA-Z809 sustainable forest management certification, hard on the heels of achieving certification to the PEFC Chain of Custody program.

Through these and other certification efforts, Millar Western assures customers, neighbours and other stakeholders of its commitment to healthy forests for the future.
