There is hope to be had for the St. Anne Nackawic pulp mill. Tembec and the Aditya Birla Group of India have signed a framework agreement with the province of New Brunswick that will see Birla the majority partner and Tembec the lead operator. The news comes almost exactly one month after Tembec dropped its plans to buy the mill.

Work is scheduled to start after the transaction is closed and the mill is converted to be able to produce a mix of paper, dissolving and specialty pulps. It will continue to produce hardwood pulp as well.

Site preparation, plant rehabilitation and training are expected to finish up this summer and early fall, for a restart of the mill by October or November.
