The Organizing Committee for the XII World Forestry Congress met recently for a working session to prepare for this international event which will take place in September 2003. The members are: (front) Patrick Filiatrault, Jacques Joli-Coeur, Jean-Louis Krouac; (back) Denise Rousseau, Marc Ledoux, Jacques Carette, Simon Awashish, Ren Pronovost and Jacques Robitaille. Absent on this picture are Lise Lachapelle, Dr. Rorke Bryan, Harry Bombay, Ron McDonald and Jocelyn Jacques.

The STFI (Swedish Pulp & Paper Research) board of directors appointed Professor Thomas Johannesson new president of STFI, effective January 1, 2002. Johannesson is presently President/Rector of Lund Institute of Technology.

Enron Industrial Markets announced that Ivan Boileau has been named general manager of Garden State Paper, its recycled newsprint mill in Garfield, NJ.

Rowan Williams Davies & Irwin (RWDI), announced several appointments for its new Ottawa office. They are: Colin Welburn as branch manager, Vernon Nielsen as noise specialist and Ben Coulson as senior engineer.

John Oleksy was named District Sales Manager for Thermo Black Clawson’s Fiberline and Pulping Liquors Division.

Bielomatik has named Volker Traudt to head its new Paper Division, headquartered in New Hudson, MI.

IN MEMORIAM

Past TAPPI Board Member, chair of the Paper & Board Division, and former Technical Editor for TAPPI Journal, Dan W. Manson passed away recently in Portland, ME. After a career of more than 30 years with various paper companies, Manson had formed his own consulting company in 1991. He was a TAPPI Fellow and had received the 1979 Paper & Board Manufacture Division Award and the Canadian Pulp & Paper Association Technical Section’s Weldon Gold Medal.
