The chief justice of Quebec’s Superior court, Lyse Lemieux, has upheld a request from forestry companies to remove Judge Jean-Jacques Croteau from continuing to hear the case between forestry companies and Quebec Cree, an aboriginal group. The case centres on an application from Quebec Cree chiefs to stop the granting of logging permits in the northern Quebec regions of Abitibi and the territory covered by the James Bay and Northern Agreement (JBNQA). Judge Danielle Grenier has been appointed coordinating judge.
