Apr. 19, 2017 – Cascades and Tricentris say they are thrilled to have signed a three-year partnership agreement, where Tricentris will supply all of the cardboard recovered at its three sorting facilities — Lachute, Terrebonne and Gatineau — to Cascades.
The alliance, they say, will result in benefits for the environment and the local economy.
For the two Quebec organizations, the deal will aim to sustain the momentum they share from several other successful collaborations. Over the next three years, 75,000 tonnes of cardboard obtained through selective collection and sorted by Tricentris will be transferred to Cascades. Sourced from the recycling bins of the 1.9 million Quebec residents served by Tricentris, this material will be used to manufacture Cascades products made with recycled fibres. The materials are therefore used, sorted and processed entirely within Quebec.
“Besides making total sense from an environmental standpoint, this deal, which is valued at more than $10 million, will help to drive the local economy. With the two businesses’ Lachute operations just 11 kilometres apart, this partnership also minimizes the environmental footprint associated with transporting the materials. This added advantage is perfectly consistent with the values and vision of both Cascades and Tricentris,” noted Frédéric Potvin, general manager of Tricentris.

We take great pride in the fact that we manufacture premium products while also giving those materials a second life,” added Luc Langevin, president and COO, Cascades Specialty Products Group.
Founded in 1964, Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fibres. The company employs 11,000 women and men, who work in close to 90 production units in North America and Europe.
Tricentris describes itself as the largest sorting organization in Quebec, with 200 member and client municipalities across the Laurentides, Outaouais, Lanaudière, Montérégie and Abitibi‑Témiscamingue regions. It serves 1.9 million residents, receiving, sorting and marketing some 200,000 tonnes of recyclable materials annually.
