PASADENA, CA — ChemIndustry.com, a provider of Web-based search services for the $1.6-trillion (US) chemicals industry, reports that it has secured $1 million (US) in seed financing from Net Effect Technologies, a Internet incubator. The money is earmarked to develop a database of Web sites dedicated to the chemicals industry. “Our goal is to become the first search service [that] chemical and allied industry professionals use when they are looking for industry-specific information,” said Yaron Rapaport, company founder and chief executive officer. Rapaport, a chemical engineer, founded the Web site in April 1999, because he said that most search engines do not meet the criteria of industry professionals. “Although search engines such as Yahoo and Altavista may return thousand of hits, most of the hits are irrelevant or not useful, he said.
