By default, the Windows Taskbar lies along the bottom of the screen. This is OK when you have three or four items on it, but if you have many, they can become irritatingly abbreviated.

It is often easier to read the Taskbar if it is on the right hand side of the screen, and set to a convenient width. To move it, click on a plain area of the taskbar, and drag it up to the side of the screen that you prefer. You can set the width by dragging the edge of the taskbar, just like any window.
