February 27, 2019 – Mercer Peace River Pulp has been named one of the top 75 employers in Alberta by Mediacorp.

The Alberta’s Top Employers list is compiled by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. The list recognizes the Alberta employers that offer exceptional places to work. The winners were announced in a special magazine published in the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal.

“This recognition is a reflection of the exceptional performance of the organization and its team members,” says David Gandossi, president and CEO of Mercer International, which is Mercer Peace River Pulp’s parent company. “This recognition is a testament to our commitment to being a different kind of company – in how we serve our stakeholders, as well as how we treat our team members. Being recognized as a top employer is a source of pride for everyone at Mercer.”

“We cultivate an environment where our people can grow and thrive as we pursue our vision of excellence,” says Shawn Elliott, mill manager at Mercer Peace River Pulp.

Alberta’s Top Employers recognizes organizations that demonstrate strong performance along with the ability to attract and retain high‐performing talent.

In compiling the list, the Mediacorp editors consider eight criteria: (1) physical workplace; (2) work atmosphere & social; (3) health, financial & family benefits; (4) vacation & time off; (5) employee communications; (6) performance management; (7) training & skills development; and (8) community involvement.

In a release, Mercer Peace River Pulp also credits its environmental and forest management practices, and its collaborations with Indigenous communities for contributing to its work culture.

Mercer International is a global forest products manufacturing company with operations in Germany, Canada, and Australia with a consolidated annual production capacity of approximately 2.2 million tonnes of NBSK pulp and 550 million fbm of softwood lumber.
