Port Hawkesbury mayor Billy Joe MacLean is appealing to politicians not to turn the situation with Stora Enso’s pulp mill into an election issue, the CBC reported.
“Then they start blaming one another. It’s not a matter of blame. I think everybody and every party is hoping for a good result,” the report quoted MacLean as saying.
The mill, out of commission since December, has been the subject of fierce debate, as the company and the union have battled about a 10% wage roll back. Although the situation is currently at a stalemate, Stora Enso’s board of directors is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, May 30, to discuss the facility’s future, the CBC confirmed.
