AbitibiBowater has appointed Anthony F. Griffiths and Paul Rivett to serve on its Board of Directors. These appointments are the result of Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited’s right to appoint two directors to the Board, as per the terms of the purchase agreement of Fairfax’s private placement, which was announced on March 24, 2008. At the same time, AbitibiBowater announced the departures of Hans P. Black and Bruce W. Van Saun as members of the board.

PennWell is adding a third technology centre to its repertoire and has announced that three industry veterans will be overseeing the coordination of these centres. The new folding carton technology centre will be coordinated by Fred Shapiro, an authority in the packaging and converting industry. Jim Lepp, with a strong background in printing, coating and laminating machinery, is responsible for the flexible packaging tech centre, while Vince DiTrolio will be coordinating the expanded narrow-to-mid-web technology centre.

Miami-based Atlas Paper has put in place a new executive team. Rosa Thuemler has been appointed president and CEO. She previously held the posistion of CFO. Maria Figueroa Byrd is now CFO, while Joseph G. O’Brienhas been appointed vice-president of sales and marketing.

Norske Skog’s corporate assembly has elected Tom Ruud as chair and Helge Evju as deputy chair. Other shareholder elected members are Emil Aubert, Ann Kristin Brautaset, Thorleif Enger, Ove Gusevik, Kirsten Ideben, Even Mengshoel, Christian Ramberg, Tom Rathke, Otto Sberg og and Karen Helene Ulltveit-Moe.

Shareholder-elected deputy members are, Svein Haare, Ole H. Bakke, Kjersti Narum and Uta Stoltenberg.

The corporate assembly also elected shareholder representatives to the board. Kim Wahl, Halvor Bjrken, Gisle Marchand and Ingrid Wiik were re-elected as board members, and ystein Stray Spetalen, Svein Rennemo and Wenche Holen were elected new board members. Kim Wahl was re-elected as chair of the board and ystein Stray Spetalen was elected deputy chair of the board.
