Lufkin, TX-The dismantling process at AbitibiBowater’s mill in Lufkin, TX, got underway in mid-June. While not all the equipment is being relocated, pumps, motors and other various pieces will be transported to other locations belonging to the company, the Lufkin Daily News reported.

The closure was announced in November 2007, and possibilities for the facility are still being discussed. According to plant manager Delton Smith, the facility still has its wastewater and air permits, so required adjustments for a new owner would be minimal. According to the Lufkin Daily News, the mill has received numerous internal inquiries from other locations since the announcement of the closure. Other options are for the facility to be used in the production of ethanol from pine trees or renting out the location.
