Nashville, TNIt has been a busy few months for the Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union. On the heels of last week’s controversial DuPont tours comes a bribery scandal involving Taiwan Cement, a parent company of Continental Carbon.
The Taiwan Confederation of Trade Unions provided PACE with newspaper articles referencing the scandal, which were subsequently translated to English. According to the information they contained, the articles accuse a subsidiary of Taiwan Cement of using over $3 million to bribe public officials for favorable treatment of a contract to build an incinerator in Linnei Township, Taiwan.
A full investigation is under way.
