The Canadian Business Hall of Fame formally welcomed former Slocan Forest Products Chairman, President and CEO IRVING K. (IKE) BARBER as a laureate at the 25th Annual Canadian Business Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies and Gala Celebration for his significant and valuable contribution to the Canadian economy and way of life.

Nexfor Fraser announced that GILLES VOLPE (formerly vice president & manager, Edmundston Operations) has been appointed Vice President & Manager, Madawaska Operations.

DANIEL GRANDMAISON (formerly manager, Paperboard) has been promoted to General Manager, Edmundston Operations.

JOHN WALKUSH, Mill Manager at Weyerhaeuser’s Longview mill and Vice President for Pulp and Paper, will retire at the end of June. A new leadership structure for Weyerhaeuser’s local pulp and paper operations will position three company managers — TINA CYGRYMUS, FRANK BUSCH and DENNIS MORGAN — as the pulp and paper leadership team, effective July 1.

ELISABET SALANDER BJORKLUND has been appointed Executive Vice President and head of Wood Supply Europe. Ms Salander Bjrklund is currently director, Raw Material and Fibre Products, in Stora Enso Timber.

VESA KAINU has been appointed President of Metso Ventures, which comprises the fourth business area at Metso Corporation.

JUKKA NYROLA, Executive Vice President of the Jaakko Pyry Group, has been appointed Business Group Director of the Forest Industry business group. JOHN LINDAHL, M.Sc. (Paper Technology), has been appointed President of Jaakko Pyry Oy, which focuses on investment projects. KARI KALLIALA, Jaakko Pyry Oy’s current President, has announced that he will resign as of July 1, 2003.

Kadant Black Clawson Inc. announced the appointment of LINWOOD G. “WOODY” TYLER to the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In his new position, Tyler will be responsible for managing all of Kadant Black Clawson’s North American sales activities.

Babcock & Wilcox Canada has appointed KEITH RIVERS as Manager, Fossil Services & Products Marketing. His key responsibilities will include defining market needs and providing products and services that maximize customer value.

The Air Liquide Group has named LUC DOYON (head of Canadian operations) based in Montreal, QC, as President and COO of Air Liquide Canada.

The Arne Asplund Mechanical Pulping Award 2003 has been presented to DR.TORBJORN HELLE, MR. PER OLAV JOHNSEN, DR. KJELL-ARVE KURE and DR. PHILIP REME, all from Norway, for their research on the characteristics of mechanical pulping fibers and relation to paper properties. The award ceremony was arranged in conjunction with the 2003 International Mechanical Pulping Conference in Qubec City, QC.

Georgia-Pacific Corp. has named LEE M. THOMAS Chief Operating Officer. Thomas will continue to oversee the company’s wood and fibre procurement, as well as human resources, information technology, environmental affairs, government affairs and strategic sourcing.

Packaging President STEVEN J. KLINGER will become Executive Vice President and President of Packaging.

Executive Vice President of Pulp and Paperboard DAVID J. PATERSON will become Executive Vice President and President of Building Products.

Executive Vice President of Paper and Bleached Board GEORGE W. WURTZ will become executive vice president and president of pulp and paper, and will add responsibilities for pulp manufacturing and sales, as well as the recycling group, Harmon Associates.#text2#
