Two Canadian Forest Service researchers working at the Pacific Forestry Centre have recently been honoured for their outstanding work: Dr. Ren Alfaro, a forest entomolygist, is the 2001 recipient of the Canadian Forestry Scientific Achievement Award; and Dr. Caroline Preston, an adjunct professor of forest sciences at University of British Columbia, has garnered the Clara Benson Award from the Canadian Society of Chemistry.

Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., Chicago, IL, has elected Patrick J. Moore president, chief executive officer and director of the company. He succeeds Ray M. Curran, who has retired.

Sappi Ltd., Johannesburg, South Africa, has appointed Kathleen Walters as president and chief executive officer of Sappi Fine Paper North America. She succeeds Monte Haymon, who will stay on as non-executive chairman.

Degussa Corp., Parsippany, NJ, has named Robert Taylor as its marketing manager of hydrogen peroxide for the pulp and paper industry.

Battelle has appointed Dr. Carl F. Kohrt as president and chief executive officer. He succeeds Dr. Douglas E. Olesen, who has retired.
