The Forest Stewardship Recognition Program award was presented to three industry leaders for their stewardship efforts in Canada’s forests in 2003:
SERGE GOSSELIN, director of Foresterie Saguenay, Abitibi-Consolidated, QC — for efforts to maintain woodland caribou habitat in a working forest.
ALEX FERGUSON, chief forester, Slocan Forest Products, BC — for developing and implementing Slocan’s sustainable forest management framework and for the company’s forest certification efforts.
CHRIS SPYTZ, senior biologist, Weldwood Canada, AB — for extensive work in stream-crossing remediation planning and management.
JUSSI PESONEN was appointed as president and CEO of UPM. He is succeeding Juha Niemel who resigned for the position. Niemel is also resigning from the board of directors.
GREGORY P. KELM was elected as treasurer and an officer of Minerals Technologies. He had been the assistant treasurer since February 2000.
Currently the director of marketing and sales for graphic papers at Sappi Fine Paper Europe, MICHAEL SPALLART also became an executive board member for the company.
