REYNOLD HERT has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Western Forest Products. Hert assumed his new duties with the company on October 4th, 2004 at the company’s office in Duncan, BC.

PAUL CLOUGH has resigned from Forest & Marine Financial Group’s board of directors.

Sappi Fine Paper North America appointed JEFFREY PINA as director of corporate communications.

DON QUIGLEY has been appointed president of North American customer development at Kimberly-Clark. Quigley formerly held the same position at PepsiCo. He succeeds BRUCE PAYNTER.

CHARLES WILLIAMSON and MICHAEL STEUERT have been appointed to Weyerhaeuser’s board of directors. Committee assignments have yet to be determined.

MELISSA HERKT has joined Emerson Process Management as president of process systems and solutions for the Americas.

The board of directors of American Israeli Paper Mills has appointed AVI BRENER the company’s chief executive officer, effective January 1st, 2005.

Weyerhaeuser has named ERNESTA BALLARD senior vice president of corporate affairs. He assumed the responsibilities of his new position on October 25th, 2004.

DOUGLAS ATACK of PAPRICAN was inducted under the Research & Development category for significant contributions to research and the mechanical pulping industry to the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame. The Paper Hall recently celebrated its 10th induction ceremony. Also inducted were RAYMOND MUNDT, for creating a national paper products distribution organization while at Alco Standard, JOHN REEVE for his leadership in the field of carbonless paper while president at Appleton Papers, DARWIN SMITH (posthumously) for his leadership at Kimberley-Clark, while RICHARD WOLLENBERG was inducted for his leadership in guiding Longview Fibre Company into the solid-wood products business.

JACQUES BOUGIE has been appointed to Abitibi-Consolidated’s board of directors.

VERONICA HAGEN has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Sappi Fine Paper North America. She assumed her new duties on November 1st, 2004.

RAY HEUCHLING has been appointed chairman of the Center for Paper Business and Industry Studies. PHIL JONES is the centre’s new vice-chairman.

ALEXANDER WASSERMAN is now executive vice president of Voith Paper MmbH & Co. KG. He assumed his new duties on October 1st, 2004.

CONNIE DUCKWORTH has been elected to Smurfit-Stone’s board of directors. Her election increases the board’s membership to 10.

ROBERT TAYLOR has been named vice president of Weyerhaeuser’s softwood lumber division. NANCY AREND succeeds him as vice president of appearance wood business.

Caraustar Industries has appointed CHARLES GREINER, JR to its board of directors. A 32-year veteran of the paper and forest products industry, Greiner’s addition to the board became effective on October 14th, 2004.
