The supervisory board of Voith AG, Heidenheim, has appointed BERTRAM STAUDENMAIER as a new deputy member of the corporate board of management.

JUHA MAKELA has been appointed general counsel of UPM. The general counsel acts as the secretary to UPM’s Board of Directors and the Executive Team and reports to JUSSI PESONEN, President and CEO.

JAMES B.C. DOAK has been appointed to the board of directors of Cascades.

Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation has promoted four people to key positions in its Containerboard Mill and Forest Resources division.

LARRY PRICE has been promoted to vice president, mill operations; PAUL HAYES to general manager, at the company’s West Point, VA, mill; JIM SORENSON to general manager, at the Uncasville, CT, mill; and CHRIS BROOME to general manager, at the company’s Ontonagon, MI, mill.

Metso Corporation’s Board of Directors has appointed RISTO HAUTAMAKI president of Metso Paper and a member of the Metso executive team as of April 1, 2005. The current president of the Metso Paper business area, BERTEL KARLSTEDT, will continue in the position until March 31, 2005, and will then become executive vice president of Metso Paper.

Sappi Fine Papers has appointed JEFF BRUNGARDT as pulp sales manager.

Abitibi-Consolidated has appointed JACQUES BOUGIE to its board of directors. He is currently a director on the boards of Nova Chemicals, McCain Foods, Rona, and is a member of a number of other advisory committees.

Weyerhaeuser has announced that TOM HOLMES has assumed the role of vice president, Canadian Timberlands. In addition to his present responsibilities as vice president Timberlands BC Coastal Group, Holmes will be responsible for Weyerhaeuser’s forestlands across Canada. This includes the forestlands operations in Interior British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and New Brunswick.

ERNESTA BALLARD has been appointed as Weyerhaeuser’s senior vice president of corporate affairs. Her new responsibilities will include corporate communications, corporate philanthropy, government affairs and environment, as well as health and safety. Ballard was previously Alaska’s environmental conservation commissioner.

BILL KUSHLICK has been appointed president and COO of Taiga Forest Products. He officially assumed the title on March 1st, 2005, at which time he was also appointed to the company’s board of directors.

The newly created position of vice president of business development at Interfor has been given to DES GELZ, where he will be responsible for coordinating the company’s new business and growth initiatives.
