Production is expected to restart this week at Doman Industries market pulp mill in Port Alice, BC.

Production is expected to restart this week at Doman Industries market pulp mill in Port Alice, BC.

In a move to absolve it from permanent closure, a Supreme Court judge in BC approved the sale of the dissolving sulphite market pulp mill to LaPointe Partners. The new owners have indicated their intent to at least double sales volumes from their current levels.

The Port Alice mill has idled after a 37-day production run that concluded on May 11, the day of the sale. As a result of fibre shortages the mill remained inoperative during the entire first quarter. The mill is now being supplied with woodfibre and chemicals, and is expected to resume production next week.
