It’s down to the wire, and the mood is not positive. At 5 o’clock on June 20, locked out Stora Enso workers in Port Hawkesbury will be informed of their fate, as votes on the company’s latest contract offer will be counted.

The results are expected to be close. At the centre of negotiations is the possibility of a 10% wage roll back, which Stora is pushing hard for, and has angered the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers’ Union.

Stora has maintained that if a contract is not reached with its workers, and if the province of Nova Scotia does not offer it a more competitive electricity rate, it will close the mill.
