PPEC joins Two Sides North America to promote paper-based packaging
March 31, 2020 By P&PC Staff
The Paper and Paperboard Packaging Environmental Council (PPEC) has joined Two Sides North America, the non-profit organization that promotes the responsible production, use, and sustainability of print, paper and packaging.
PPEC represents over 90 per cent of the Canadian paper packaging industry on environmental issues. The council was founded by packaging mills and converters in 1990. Its board of directors is representative of the industry’s four different sectors and the council operates on a consensus basis.
PPEC lobbies governments, networks with other industry players, co-ordinates action industry-wide, develops practical solutions and promotes the environmental performance and achievements of the industry as a whole.
“We welcome PPEC to our Two Sides network,” says Phil Riebel, president of Two Sides North America. “Their expertise will be of great value given that we are now addressing sustainability topics related to paper-based packaging.”
“While packaging has specific environmental issues that it faces,” says John Mullinder, executive director of PPEC, “we have a lot in common with other sectors of the broader paper industry. By contributing to and participating with Two Sides, I think we will both benefit by developing a credible sustainability message for paper-based packaging.”
