MONTREAL, QC – Abitibi-Consolidated announced today that, following an agreement with the four unions representing employees of its Iroquois Falls, ON, division, the 50 000 tonne #1 specialty machine will remain in operation. As part of the agreement, approximately 40 people will be laid off before the end of the year and another 75 positions will be eliminated over the next three years, mainly through early retirements.
