Resolute contributes $15K to Special Olympics Canada 2020 Winter Games

April 29, 2019 – Resolute’s pulp and paper mill in Thunder Bay, Ontario, has donated $15,000 to the Special Olympics Canada 2020 Winter Games, as a sponsor of the closing ceremony.

The Games will be held in Thunder Bay from February 25-29, 2020, and will cover eight sports competitions: alpine skiing, five-pin bowling, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing and speed skating. Over 1,200 athletes, coaches, managers and staff from across Canada are expected to participate.

“Our employees are very proud to play a part in such a wonderful national event, and we are pleased to see the Games come to the beautiful city of Thunder Bay,” says John Poirier, general manager of the Thunder Bay mill.

Employees will have the opportunity to participate as volunteers in the planning process, as well as in several events such as the opening, closing and awards ceremonies.

Robert Dufresne, Resolute’s vice president, operations for pulp and paper, formally presented the cheque to Louisa Constanzo, games manager, Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Thunder Bay 2020, at the mill on April 25.
