PORT HAWKESBURY, NS — Employees of Stora Enso’s Port Hawkesbury Mill recently gathered to celebrate the production of the one-millionth tonne of supercalendered paper. The Port Hawkesbury mill started producing the magazine and catalogue paper on April 15, 1998. On January 12, 2002, it reached one million tonnes.

During this period, PM 2 achieved four daily world speed records. The first world record occurred within five months of start up, at 1630 meters per minute in September 1998 and the most recent occurred on December 19, 2001, at a wor4ls speed record of 1732 meters per minute.

The mill produces 185 000 metric tonnes of newsprint and 350 000 metric tonnes of supercalendered paper annually when in full production, for the magazine and catalogue markets in North America. Approximately 800 people are employed directly in its mill and woodlands operations.
