Summer vacation will be extended for 139 Smurfit-Stone employees. The company has confirmed plans to close its corrugated container facility in Pembroke, ON.

Although operations aren’t schedule to permanently cease until the end of July, the weeks preceding that date will see a gradual transferring of production to nearby Smurfit-MBI facilities.

The move comes as part of the company’s plans to close up to 20% of its corrugated container facilities while transferring the business to larger plants. This closure marks the sixth of its kind since Smurfit elected to pursue these measures.
