Smurfit-Stone Container Enterprises has advised Catalyst Paper that it will stop operating the corrugating medium machine at the Snowflake Mill, no later than October 15 of this year.

According to a report by Fox Business, Snowflake Mill has operated the Smurfit-Stone machine under a ten-year contract. The mill is one of the lowest-cost newsprint facilities in North America, and has an annual production capacity of 375,000 tonnes of 100% recycled newsprint.

Roughly 100 salaried and hourly positions at the mill will be eliminated by the closure.
