Sonoco has been selected for Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies ranking in the packaging sector.

The diversified packaging company ranked first in financial soundness and second in several other categories, including innovation, people, social responsibility and quality of products/services. Sonoco ranked second overall in the packaging sector of the rankings.

“We are honored to be named to Fortune’s Most Admired list again this year, and specifically proud of our overall second place ranking,” said Jack Sanders, president and CEO. “We have always subscribed to the guiding principle that people build businesses by doing the right thing, and Sonoco’s success starts with our associates.”

Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies list is a report card on corporate reputations. Executives, directors and analysts rate companies in their own industry on nine criteria, from investment value to social responsibility. A company’s score must rank in the top half of its industry survey to be listed.

Sonoco had the highest ranking of paper packaging companies in the list, followed closely by International Paper and Westrock.

Sonoco operates two board mills in Ontario.
