Effective as of Monday, September 27th, Sonoco has raised prices on uncoated recycled paperboard by $30 to $40 per ton, depending on the grade. Kim Bowen, senior vice president, first released the announcement on August 31st 2004.

"Despite heavy demand for our paperboard products, we have not been able to offset significant cost increases in energy, freight, chemicals and labor," he explained. "While our rigorous productivity and cost cutting initiatives and aggressive pursuit of other means of cost reduction such as alternative fuels and freight methods have helped, we cannot continue to absorb these increases," he confirmed.
