Sonoco is set to up the prices of its paper-based engineered carriers (tubes and cores) and related specialty products by up to 5% in Canada and the U.S. The announcement, made by vice president and general manager of industrial products for North America Jack Sanders, confirmed the new prices will become effective on or after June 27th, 2005.

"The uncoated recycled paperboard industry has recently announced a price increase of $30 to $40 per tonne," Sanders said. "In addition to this increase, our tube and converted products operations have also incurred increased costs for energy, freight, adhesives and other non-material expenses. We will therefore, also be evaluating related set-up and finishing costs, freight charges and order quantities. Although we are continuing to implement productivity improvements, we have been unable to fully offset these continuing increased costs and must adjust our prices."
