State of emergency due to wildfires ends in B.C.

The government of British Columbia has allowed the state of emergency, in place since July 20 due to a severe wildfire season, to expire.

The provincial government says that cooler seasonal weather and precipitation, as well as the efforts by firefighters to contain and extinguish the wildfires, means the state of emergency can end.

However, the government cautioned that the wildfire season is not yet other, and the public needs to stay prepared.

As of Sept. 13, 2021, there were 205 wildfires burning in B.C., with three evacuation orders and 12 evacuation alerts in place. So far this year, 15,85 fires burned 868,619 hectares in the province.
