A failure to reach a conclusion has prompted a concession -of sorts. Stora Enso and the union representing the Port Hawkesbury plant’s 600 workers have agreed to keep talking until January 6th in a last-ditch attempt to avoid a lockout.
Mill management had originally filed notice that should the talks collapse, they would implement a lockout as of January 3rd.

The CBC reported that Stora Enso has said it will require concessions from the union in order to be competitive. The company is also thinking of shutting down one of the two mills at the plant, a move that would see 350 jobs slashed.
