Tall oil among the topics at wood biorefining event

Four parallel conference tracks at International Wood Biorefining Week will focus on bioenergy and biobased products and innovations.
Held in Stockholm, IWB Week combines three strong events for the pulp, paper and bioenergy industries. There is also a strong focus on new innovations and products from the forest industry.
The conference begins on May 24 with an opening ceremony followed by a session focusing on biomass markets. During the two following days there will be four parallel focus areas running at the same time.
The program for World Bioenergy will be divided into advanced Biofuels, power and heat from the forest. The different sessions will focus on “from demo to commercial”, black pellets and torrefaction, advanced biofuels, bioenergy from the forest industry, biopower from forest biomass, biofuels in aviation and marine applications.
For the Bioeconomy Innovation Forum, the focus will be on carbon fibres from the forest, packaging, nanocelluse, bio-plastics, construction plus the food and textile industries.
The conference will end with a focus session on the future of the industry.

At International Wood Biorefining Week, Arizona Chemical, a leader in biorefining crude tall oil (CTO), will discuss the importance of its industry as a key factor in promoting an intelligent and sustainable bioeconomy. As at the PulPaper 2014 event in Helsinki, the company will initiate debate on the true value-adding elements of the bioeconomy, on solutions far beyond the narrow concept of biofuel production.
Arizona Chemical refines and upgrades CTO in its biorefineries in Europe and the U.S. into a wide range of innovative bio-based specialty chemicals. The CTO-based solutions replace fossil-based materials in thousands of everyday products such as adhesives, paints, cleaners, coatings, tapes, labels, roofing materials, tires, lubricants and fuel additives. The basic idea in all those innovations is not only to offer a green alternative to the versatile producers of consumer and industry products, but clearly improve the functionality of these commodities.
CTO-based specialty chemicals delivered by Arizona Chemical enable the increased high-end reuse of recovered asphalt, reduce sulphur in diesel fuel and improve the strength and stability of tackifiers as well as durability and visibility of road markings.
CTO, a co-product of the kraft pulping process, originates from pine tree resin.
