ISELIN, NJ — A new Engelhard kaolin-based pigment enables formulators to customize the gloss levels of their coated grades, while achieving outstanding optical and printing performance.

Engelhard Ultimatte pigment, used for high quality, dull- and matte-finish coated papers, consistently demonstrates a greater resistance to gloss development compared with other matte pigments. In addition, Ultimatte offers the potential for significant cost savings via optimization of pigment systems used in low-gloss coating applications. Ultimatte pigment also helps maintain satisfactory coater runnability.

VALVE

NO PRESSURE

OAKLAND, NJ – Hayward’s new corrosion-resistant, all-plastic solenoid valve line features unique design that permits the valves to close regardless of the differential pressure across them. Ordinary solenoid valves often require pressure differentials of up to 25 psi to operate effectively. Now, designers of systems requiring an instant on/off, non-contaminating solenoid valve can choose a valve that offers more system design flexibility.

CHEMICAL

GRAND OPENING

MARIETTA, GA – Eka Chemicals, Inc., a business unit of Akzo Nobel, officially opened its new paper chemicals plant in Howard, WI. The $13 million US facility was started up ahead of schedule and within budget. Construction and start up phases went without any lost time accidents or injuries.

SLUDGE

DENSITY METER

HOUSTON, TX – A new sludge density meter, especially designed to monitor suspended solids in harsh conditions, has been introduced by Solartron Mobrey.

Initially engineered for use in highly caustic, high-temperature bauxite mud environments, the MSM400 consists of a microprocessor-based control unit and a pair of ultrasonic sensors. Density is measured by monitoring the attenuation in an ultrasonic signal transmitted through sludge.
