Sir: In the story on the Conference technologique estivale in the August issue, the writer refers to the conferences of the 1970s and 1980s as “…the social and recreational gathering…” NO!! From the very beginning, when Andr Marcoux, from Quebec, and Jean-Luc Pellerin, from Trois-Rivires, were leading the organizing committee, the primary emphasis has always been on the program. Yes, there were social and recreational events, and very pleasant they were, too, but the primary concern was always a good technical program.

If the technical programs hadn’t been good, I very much doubt that the conference would have survived to become the Congrs Francophone du Papier!
