Tembec managed to cut its fourth quarter loss to $54.5, down from $134.9 million a year ago.

The company attributes the improvement to stronger pulp and paper prices, which helped deflect the impact of weakening newsprint and lumber markets.

The company posted a loss of 64 cents a share on sales of $863 million, up from a loss of $1.58 a share on sales of $816.8 million for the corresponding quarter a year ago.
