UPM-Kymmene Miramichi’s biggest customer, Time Warner, wants 50% of the paper it buys from New Brunswick to come from environmentally certified forests by the end of 2004, 65% by 2005 and 80% by 2006.

Time Warner bought 50,000 tons, out of its total purchase of 600,000 short tons of paper, from UPM-Kymmene Miramichi.

Representatives from the NY-based publishing company delivered the deadlines last week in Miramichi, NB, saying they are simply fulfilling what their customers demand.

NB officials said the province can meet Time Warner’s requirement, as they are asking land owners to have their woodlots certified as sustainably managed.
