In separate announcements, pulp companies informed its customers of market pulp price increases by $40/tonne, effective April 1 until further notice.

Domtar Inc., Montreal, QC, announced its new prices:
–Northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK): $580/tonne in the U.S.
–Southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK): $560/tonne in the U.S.
–Maple-grade northern bleached hardwood kraft (NBHK) — Domtar’s only offshore grade: $570/tonne in the U.S., $540/tonne in Europe. Domtar has made no announcement for Asia, but expects to follow the rest of the market–likely up $40/tonne.
–Southern bleached hardwood kraft (SBHK): $540/tonne in the U.S.

Canfor Corp.,Vancouver, BC, announced $40/tonne price increases for northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK), effective April 1 until further notice.
The new prices will be $580/tonne in the U.S. and $560/tonne in Europe — same prices previously revealed by other NBSK producers.
No formal announcements were made in Asia.

Mitsubishi Pulp Sales informed customers it is raising U.S. list prices of its Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc., Boyle, AB, grades by $40/tonne to $560/tonne for aspen northern bleached hardwood kraft (NBHK) and to $580/tonne for northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK).

Western Pulp Inc.’s new NBSK prices will be US $560 per tonne in Europe and US $580 per tonne in the U.S.

Sappi Fine Paper North America, Boston, MA, told customers that its new prices for North America will be:
–Aspen-grade NBHK: $560/tonne.
–Maple-grade NBHK: $570/tonne.

Other companies considering the April 1 $40/tonne paper pulp increases until futher notice include International Paper Co., Tembec Inc., Georgia-Pacific Corp., Fraser Papers Inc., and Sdra Cell AB. Those announcing for the quarter include Weyerhaeuser Co., Parsons & Whittemore Inc., Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., and Bowater Inc.
