Two Canadian BCTMP mills taking market downtime

October 13, 2015  By Cindy Macdonald

The two Canadian BCTMP mills owned by Paper Excellence Group are taking market-related downtime, reports Industry Intelligence Inc.

The news service attributes the update about the mills in Chetwynd, B.C., and Meadow Lake, Sask., to market pulp consultant Brian McClay.
According to McClay, Paper Excellence’s mill in Chetwynd will be shut for the rest of the year. Originally it was to have been down for two weeks starting Sept. 9.
The mill in Meadow Lake will remain down until Oct. 22 instead of the earlier-planned Oct. 5, McClay said. It was originally set to have gone down Sept. 13 for one week for regular maintenance and an additional two weeks for market reasons.
Industry Intelligence reports that McClay’s Market Pulp Monthly report released Sept. 9, showed an August gross price in China of $380/tonne for 80-brightness aspen BCTMP, down $50/tonne from July, and also $380/tonne for 75-brightness softwood BCTMP, down $20/tonne.
