Philippines-based United Pulp & Paper Co. is planning to set up a PHP 1.6 billion, 25-megawatt cogeneration power plant. The plant will generate biomass energy to meet the power and steam requirements of its two existing paper mills in Bulacan province, the Manila Times reported. The plant is expected to reduce the company’s annual production cost by PHP 470 million, largely in terms of fuel savings. The plant is scheduled to be operational by January 2006.
