Paper and paperboard production in the United States has moved into positive territory, gaining 1.4 percent in January and what is a year-to-year increase of 7.81 million tons. This is only the second gain in the last 13 months and the first month of positive numbers since October 2006. At 3.5 million tons, total paper production was 15,000 tons or 0.4 percent above last year’s comparable with the printing/writing paper segment up 1.9 percent.
